Who this applies to

Those who lost a job and worked a total of at least 365 days at minimum wage or above within the last 18 months. A zlecenie contract counts if contributions were paid on at least the minimum wage; a dzieło contract gives no entitlement. After quitting or ending by mutual agreement, the benefit starts only after a 90-day waiting period. Going abroad while receiving it — at most 30 days a year, after notifying.

Step by step

Register as unemployed

Online at praca.gov.pl (with a Trusted Profile) or in person at the powiat labour office for your registered residence. Bring your work certificates and contribution documents.

The PUP determines your entitlement

The office checks the 365 days in 18 months and your seniority (80/100/120%). Unemployed status also brings health insurance — whether or not the benefit is granted.

Meet the duties and receive payments

Attend the scheduled visits and accept suitable job offers — an unjustified refusal costs the status. The benefit is paid in arrears for monthly periods.

Common mistakes

Counting on the benefit after a dzieło contract — no Labour Fund contributions are paid on it, so no entitlement arises.
Forgetting the 90-day wait after quitting or a mutual-agreement exit.
Leaving the country without notifying — over 30 days a year abroad ends the status and the benefit.
