Registering with a family doctor
Anyone with mandatory health insurance may freely choose a polyclinic, medical centre or family-doctor practice contracted with the patient fund. The registration paperwork costs 0.29 EUR (many clinics waive it for online sign-up). Changing clinics within 6 months costs 2.90 EUR; pupils and students are exempt.
Who this applies to
Step by step
Choose the clinic and doctor
The clinic must be contracted with the patient fund — closer to home is advisable. Ask in advance whether the chosen doctor's list is full; if so, you join a waiting list or pick another doctor.
Submit the application
At the desk with an ID document, or online via the e-government gateway or the clinic's own system (e.g. e.poliklinika.lt). A parent signs for minors.
No need to notify the old clinic
Once you apply to the new clinic, you are deregistered from the old one automatically and your records are transferred within 3 working days. Changing doctors within the same clinic takes a separate request.

Frequently asked questions
How much does registration cost?
0.29 EUR for the paperwork; many clinics waive it online. Switching within 6 months costs 2.90 EUR (waived for pupils and students).
Can I choose a private clinic?
Yes — as long as it is contracted with the patient fund for family-medicine services; then the fund pays, just as at a public clinic.
