Child benefit (child money)

Child money is a universal benefit paid for every child regardless of parental income. From 1 January 2026 it is 129.50 EUR per month (1.75 of the basic social benefit). It is paid from birth until 18, or until 23 for those in general education. Large, low-income families and families raising a child with a disability get an extra 76.20 EUR — 205.70 EUR in total per month.

Who this applies to

All families raising children. Apply online via the family social support system spis.lt or at the municipality. In addition: the one-off birth grant is 1,036 EUR from 1 June 2026, and the childcare benefit for parents without insurance record is 444 EUR monthly until the child turns two. Report changed circumstances to the municipality within a month.

Submit the application

Easiest online — at spis.lt, logging in via the e-government gateway. You can also apply at the municipal social support department. Grandparent guardians apply in their own name.

Await the decision and payments

The benefit is paid monthly per child — 129.50 EUR. The extra 76.20 EUR goes to large families, low-income families and children with disabilities.

Report any changes

Report circumstances affecting the benefit (e.g. finishing studies, moving abroad) to the municipality within a month — otherwise overpayments must be repaid.
