E-prescription and the Internet Patient Account
Prescriptions in Poland are electronic — instead of paper you get a four-digit code by SMS or email, which you give at the pharmacy together with your PESEL number. All your e-prescriptions are visible in the Internet Patient Account (pacjent.gov.pl) and the mojeIKP app. A standard e-prescription is valid 30 days, but antibiotics must be bought within 7 days, and immunological products have 120 days. For chronic conditions the doctor can mark 365-day validity — just remember to buy the first pack within 30 days, or the pharmacy will dispense a quantity reduced by the days already passed.

Step by step
Activate IKP and pick a notification channel
Log in at pacjent.gov.pl with your Trusted Profile and add your phone number or email in the settings — from then on prescription codes arrive automatically. Install the mojeIKP app, where you see prescriptions together with the dosage the doctor described.
Fill the e-prescription at a pharmacy
At the pharmacy you give the four-digit code and the PESEL of the person the prescription was issued for, or show the QR code from the app. The pharmacist sees the whole prescription in the system — no printout or the patient's phone needed, just their PESEL and the code.
Watch the validity deadlines
As standard you have 30 days from issue (or from the "valid from" date if the doctor set one). Antibiotics — 7 days, immunological products — 120. With an annual prescription you can buy a supply for at most 120 days of therapy at once, and the next batch 90 days after buying the previous one.

Can I collect medicines for a family member?
Yes — you just need their PESEL number and the prescription code. In IKP you can also give a relative standing authorisation so they see your prescriptions in their own account.
What if I don't have a PESEL number?
The doctor can issue an e-prescription based on another ID document, e.g. a passport — you then get an information printout with a barcode the pharmacy scans. It's worth getting a PESEL though: without it you can't use IKP.
